Starting out as a traditional terrace home, the Chivalry Road House is reborn as a spacious South West London dwelling. The original structure was plagued by small, segregated rooms. To remedy this dilemma, existing spaces were reconfigured by lowering floors and removing partitions while a glass-ceiling extension created additional square footage. Steel beams were fitted above the kitchen to support the new configurations — a welcome complement to the exposed brick walls. The addition of a double-height stairway allows sunlight from the new glazing to reach all the way down to the basement, transforming the typically dark, remote space into a bright, airy retreat.
